For over twenty years, Michael Mastro has worked as an actor in everything from comedy to drama to musicals…in theatre, film and television.

Born in Albany, New York and raised in nearby Castleton-on-Hudson, Michael was bitten by the acting bug while still in grade school (who can ever forget his inspired turn as The Narrator in the celebrated Castleton Elementary School production of A PARTRIDGE IN A PEAR TREE?). He knew he wanted to act professionally long before he graduated high school, and he involved himself in every school, community and professional theatre project he could before he moved to New York City in 1980 to study acting full time.

After graduating from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts with a BFA in Drama, he pursued work in theatre, film and television while honing his acting skills as a member of such NYC theatre companies as Naked Angels and the Circle Repertory Company Lab, as well as with regional theatres from Miami, Florida to Knoxville, Tennessee to Stony Point, New York.

In 1995, he made his Broadway debut in Terrence McNally’s Tony Award winning LOVE! VALOUR! COMPASSION!, and a series of appearances on Broadway followed in such productions as BARRYMORE with Christopher Plummer, Warren Leight’s Tony-winning SIDE MAN with Edie Falco, Andrew McCarthy, Christian Slater and Scott Wolff, The National Actors Theatre’s JUDGEMENT AT NUREMBERG with Maximillian Schell, Marthe Keller and George Grizzard, CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF with Jason Patric, Ashley Judd and Ned Beatty, and the recent Roundabout Theatre Company hit, TWELVE ANGRY MEN. Last year he found himself in the best physical shape of his life as he donned an orange spandex jumpsuit and a pair of silver platform boots eight times a week to play Harry Bright in the Broadway production of MAMMA MIA!

He still hasn’t figured out quite how that happened.

He continues to pursue theatre work in and out of New York, most recently having appeared with Jack Klugman and Paul Dooley in THE SUNSHINE BOYS at the celebrated George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

In television, he has been featured on numerous series including "ALIAS" (yes, gentlemen, that IS Jeniffer Garner in the blue bikini sitting on top of him in that cabana!), "HACK", "COSBY", "DEADLINE", and (because he continues to make his home in NYC) lots and lots of "LAW AND ORDER."

His film appearances include roles in KISSING JESSICA STEIN, Disney’s JUNGLE TO JUNGLE, Warren Leight’s THE NIGHT WE NEVER MET, and BOROUGH OF KINGS.

Michael has recently added directing into the mix with his work on the independent short COMPLIMENTS TO AMANDA (currently being edited), On The Leesh’s web series THE IN-BETWEENS OF HOLLY MALONE, and a benefit staging of A.R. Gurney’s LOVE LETTERS in NYC with Bernadette Peters and John Dossett for Opening Act, an organization that brings after-school theatre programs to some of New York City’s most underserved schools.

In between gigs, he enjoys teaching what he knows to others. If they’ll have it. But that’s for another site entirely - mastroclass.com.
